my top 5 beauty bloggers/youtubers

Just like a lot of people today, Youtube has taken an important side of my life. After I left high school, that's where I turned to everyday - and Tumblr. I've always been interested in makeup and beauty but watching people make videos and creating looks taught me a lot about everything makeup related. Before I got my laptop and started watching Youtube videos, I didn't know what was the difference between setting powder and bronzer... My raccoon eyes and orange face were a look, I'm telling you. I looked like a terrible mess, it was tragic. I wasn't feeling my best at that time in my life but makeup helped me focus on something else and do something I truly enjoyed. I would spend hours on my laptop, watching different beauty gurus. As silly as it sounds, makeup helped me a lot and gave purpose to my life - that's maybe a little too deep. Still today, I read/watch a good amount of blogger and in all different kinds/style. Some are very glam - I think of Tati from Glamlifeguru - or grungy/sfx - Mykie from Glam&Gore - but, like everyone, I have some personal favorites. Here are my top five favorite beauty bloggers/youtubers - no particular order.

1. Jkissa

Out of all the beauty vloggers I watch on YouTube, Jkissa is probably the boldest one. Not that it's a bad thing! Most of her looks are very bold, bright and out there and that's something I really love about her. She's not afraid to pair opposite colors/play with bright colors. It's just makeup, it washes off at the end of the day, have fun! Blue or green lips, different colored eyes (I'm talking about eyeshadows), she's all for that bright, colorful life. Even with her hair! I also like that she's not wearing any foundation - ever. She shows that you don't need to wear a full face of makeup to wear makeup - does that make sense? Makeup doesn't have rules, you do you.

2. Jaclyn Hill

This one is probably not a shocker as she's a lot of people's favorite. But, contrarily to most, I only recently discovered/started watching Jaclyn's videos recently... Sorry, I'm so late on the boat. I came across her while browsing on Instagram, searching for girls with red dyed hair - I'm dying mine soon and wanted some makeup inspiration. I searched her up on YouTube and, here we are! My favorite thing about Jaclyn is that she didn't have an easy life - nothing was free handed to her -, she had to work hard to get to where she is now. Her collab with Becca Cosmetics proves that if you really want something, you will get it but, you'll have to work for it.

3. Amanda Endsing

When I think of Amanda, I think full on glam. I don't remember seeing a video of her where she didn't look like an Instagram Baddie - not that it's a bad thing. Whenever I feel like doing a fancier look, I look on her IG for inspiration. Or for new lippies! I love how positive and overall confident she is in her videos. She's truly an inspiration.

4. Kathleen Lights

The easiness of her tutorials is probably what put her into this spot, as one of my top five. There is so many times where I struggled to understand what was going on/what to do when I watched tutorials in my early makeup days...What a mess! Nothing was even alike to what I watched. I remember understanding all of Kathleen's steps and them being easy for a beginner like me. Without her videos, my makeup would probably still be a mess just like in my high schooler days...

5. Hailie Barber

I'm gonna be honest, back in January, when I stumbled upon Hailie on Youtube, I binge watched all of her videos because I was obsessed with her grey hair... After watching so many of her makeup looks, her love for warm tones and colorful looks grew on me and now, I'm slowly experimenting more with colors. Other than our shared love for makeup, she also happen to like the same music as me - which is very rare. Before her, I never found a makeup (or fashion) lover who likes Pierce the Veil, A Day to Remember, Halsey, Sleeping with Sirens or that type of music. Can we be besties now?

the spring edit // my favorite ss16 trends

As we're changing season, the fashion changes too. Here, in Canada, the weather has only started to warm up... Though, it's not because I can't be spring-y with my clothing that I haven't started shopping for the new season. From my notes I took from various magazines/blogs, I have a good idea of what I want to wear this spring/summer. It might not be my favorite season - I'm more of an autumn girl - but I'm excited for this year's fashion. After seeing so many celebrities, models and bloggers rocking these trends, I can't wait for this yucky snow to finally leave!

Honestly, I think I could write about my favorite trends for hours but I had to downsize it to five only. Tie up/lace up (call them whatever please you) sandals, suede, button up skirts, bodysuits, neck scarves, etc. almost made it to the list but for today, let's focus on these ones. Maybe I'll make a second part, who knows.

Vintage jeans

Step aside flares! The vintage jeans are taking over. When I say 'vintage' jeans, I'm not talking about any type of jeans you can find at your local thrift store, I mean mom jeans. Those high waisted jeans with a looser cut. At first, I was iffy about this trend - skinny jeans for life! - but then, they kinda grew on me as I started seeing them on my favorite celebrities, bloggers and models. I'm still afraid to commit and buy a pair but who knows, I might jump on the band wagon if I find one to my liking.

Bomber jackets

Jackets are one of my favorite thing, I'm obsessed with them. I love how there is so many different styles. This season, it's all about bomber jackets. I've been loving this trend for a long time but this spring, they seems to be on trend more than ever. Gigi Hadid is well known for her love of bombers. She wears them with pretty much everything; casual or dressed up.

 Denim skirts

Is it me or denim is always on trend? As years goes by, the more denim we see on the catwalks; it's not only a street style fabric anymore. When I sat catwalks, I'm not only talking about Calvin Klein or Tommy Hilfiger, I mean high fashion brands like Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Saint Laurent - the latter isn't so much of a surprise with Heidi Slimane's grungy vibe. This spring, the denim skirt is making a huge comeback. I remember being a kid and wearing denim skirts. Fashion is truly a Mary-go-round. My favorites are probably the button up style or minis, I can't chose between the two.

Blush tones

Nudes, warm tones and blush hues have been all over the fashion world lately. Olivier Rousteing, creative director of Balmain, used this trend as an major inspiration for his latest collection like Balmain's aw16 blush colored corsetry/lingerie inspired runway pieces to last season's suede fever/classic and beaded pieces. Kim K is partly responsible for this trend with her classic head to toe monochrome neutrals (nude & blush tones). I was skeptical and very unsure of this trend at first but like a lot of things in the fashion world, it grew on me. Out of all the nude tones, my favorite is the blush hues, quite ironic given I hate pink. I'm not a fan of that color, at all. If you take a peek into my wardrobe, there's maybe one or two pieces who have pink on them and that's it. I prefer muted pink to bright, Barbie pink; that one makes me cringe.

If you thought this trend would die down next season, you were wrong. Now, chokers aren't only made thin velvet string with a dangly charm or rubber string. The 90s original trend has evolved and is now a real, crystal crafted jewelry - as seen on Selena Gomez (pictured on top) at the annual Victoria's Secrets show. A simple wrap up style have also made an appearance along a thick, velvet band.

p.s. I will be doing a summer edit in a few weeks, stay tuned for that!

sinful color X kylie jenner

Kylie Jenner and nail polishes go hands in hands together. I've always been obsessed with her nail - color, shape and designs - so, when she announced a collab, I was more than excited as most of the time, you can't buy/know what shades she used since she gets them done at a salon. Personally, I'm not a fan of acrylics - they're a pain to take off and not the best thing for your nail's health. In January, Miss Jenner launched her first nail polish collab with with Sinful Colors. When I first glanced at the line, I was a bit disappointed by the color range as I'm not a fan of metallics - I prefer creams - but I guess it was expected as her collection is named King Kylie. These nail polishes were a struggle to find where I live; it took me a little more than four months to see them in store. Of course, I had to grab some as Kylie is my favorite of the Kardashian/Jenner clan. I decided to grab two nudes as I already own enough bright metallics in my collection.

Sinful color X Kylie Jenner in the shade Kreme de la Kreme

The first one I grabbed is called Kreme de la Kreme. I think the names are cute, they all starts with K's which is a typical Kardashian/Jenner thing. Kreme de la Kreme is a rose gold shade with gold sparkles and though I never jumped in the band wagon for this color/metal, I quite enjoyed it on my nails. The formula applies really well and you only needs two coats (+ top coat) to have a perfect opacity. I can't wait to wear this in the summer on my toe nails!

Sinful color X Kylie Jenner in the shade Kommando

The second shade I got is called Kommando and it's a pink-y nude shade with a little bit of gold sparkles. In the bottle, the color is really pretty but I'm not sure if I like it on me... Nude shades are a struggle with my pale skin. I was surprised with the opacity of this one. Most pale shades needs more than three coats to be fully opaque but this one applied just like a regular polish: only two coats were needed.

In all, I was really pleased with the formula/time wear of this nail polish. I had never tried gel polishes before but honestly, I don't see the difference between gel and regular as it lasts the same time for me - two weeks. The only thing is that these are a pain to take off - you need a nail polish remover with acetone in it or else it'll take you hours.

p.s. Tell me if you'd like a review of another shade from the Kylie collab with Sinful. I got a shade from her spring collection who aren't gel ones.

style inspiration: taylor hill

As I was browsing on Instagram, I came across this pretty girl named Taylor Hill. I didn't know anything about her except that she's a model. I started seeing her street style appearing on my Tumblr dashboard and after reblogging a few of her outfits, I decided to do a small google search - street style. Her style is very minimalist and mostly involve neutral color. Taylor rarely wear loud prints or bold colors - except on the lips. She loves to wear oversized tops and fitted bottoms. Also leather pants, aka one of my favorite clothing ever. Other than her street style, I love Taylor's natural beauty. She's not one to wear crazy makeup everyday - if she wears any outside fashion shows/events.

fashion week inspo

Fashion week will soon be upon us! The Couture shows have already started and soon it'll be the ready-to-wear collection's turn. I can't wait to see what designers created for this season. I hope to see fluffy coats and over the knee boots again - these are my favorite trends forever for the cold season. Plus, January is my favorite fashion week. I prefer the autumn/winter collections over spring/summer because beautiful coats, boots and layering. The color scheme is also more in my line. I'm excited to see what Balmain, Rebecca Minkoff, Coach, Saint Laurent, Max Mara, Burberry, Isabel Marant and more have in stock for their upcoming collection. Let's hope there won't be too much disappointments or repetitions, I'm not a fan of the latter.

With the occasion coming soon, I decided to put together a few #FashionWeek appropriate outfits for inspiration to the lucky ones who will be attending show or just for the eye pleasure/fantasizing. Going to fashion week has always been a dream of mind and I hope to check it off my bucket list one day! Till then, let's leave place to our imagination.

Sans titre #2681

With fashion week, most of the time it's 'go bold or go home' which is why I paired two 'bold' prints for this first outfit. The fur jacket is a must for both warmth and fashion focus. I added the Isabel Marant snake print booties as a second statement but kept the overall look in the same color theme to not overwhelm the look. This is fashion week, not circus.

Sans titre #2682

The monochromatic outfits have been oh-so popular over the past months. Most tends to go for black, white or even nude with this trend but after seeing the greyscale outfit Gigi Hadid wore the other day (here), I was sold with this color. There is so many different shades of grey (ha!) available, it's almost impossible to be bored of the color. I followed with a few of my favorite trends: over the knee boots and sweater dresses to make the runway-esque look more wearable and appropriate for the street.

Sans titre #2685

Following along the monochromatic trend, here's an head to toe black outfit. Sometimes, style comes before warmth, just like this revealing decolletage blouse. Add a skinny scarf to tone down the chest area and cover up with a warm, wrap wool coat, you shouldn't get frostbites where you don't want them, ha! Incorporating culottes into these outfits was tricky because they are not season appropriate but with over the knee boots, any spring/summer wear can be worn.

Sans titre #2686

Statement coats are my favorite winter-wear. They can make a plain outfit (ex: black on black) more interesting and fashionable in a second. I love thing animal print one by Burberry from their runway line. When wearing a bold print like this, I like to stay simple/minimalist with accessories. A mini bag and booties are the way to go.

Sans titre #2684

This last look is perfect for London Fashion week because it is - in my opinion - the most casual street style wise. I rarely see bloggers/show goers dressed on their Sunday best when not dressed by the brand. Compared to Paris or even Milan, London is more laid back. I love the beading on the bomber, it gives a dressy look to the winter classic, sweater+jeans combo.
