the spring edit // my favorite ss16 trends

As we're changing season, the fashion changes too. Here, in Canada, the weather has only started to warm up... Though, it's not because I can't be spring-y with my clothing that I haven't started shopping for the new season. From my notes I took from various magazines/blogs, I have a good idea of what I want to wear this spring/summer. It might not be my favorite season - I'm more of an autumn girl - but I'm excited for this year's fashion. After seeing so many celebrities, models and bloggers rocking these trends, I can't wait for this yucky snow to finally leave!

Honestly, I think I could write about my favorite trends for hours but I had to downsize it to five only. Tie up/lace up (call them whatever please you) sandals, suede, button up skirts, bodysuits, neck scarves, etc. almost made it to the list but for today, let's focus on these ones. Maybe I'll make a second part, who knows.

Vintage jeans

Step aside flares! The vintage jeans are taking over. When I say 'vintage' jeans, I'm not talking about any type of jeans you can find at your local thrift store, I mean mom jeans. Those high waisted jeans with a looser cut. At first, I was iffy about this trend - skinny jeans for life! - but then, they kinda grew on me as I started seeing them on my favorite celebrities, bloggers and models. I'm still afraid to commit and buy a pair but who knows, I might jump on the band wagon if I find one to my liking.

Bomber jackets

Jackets are one of my favorite thing, I'm obsessed with them. I love how there is so many different styles. This season, it's all about bomber jackets. I've been loving this trend for a long time but this spring, they seems to be on trend more than ever. Gigi Hadid is well known for her love of bombers. She wears them with pretty much everything; casual or dressed up.

 Denim skirts

Is it me or denim is always on trend? As years goes by, the more denim we see on the catwalks; it's not only a street style fabric anymore. When I sat catwalks, I'm not only talking about Calvin Klein or Tommy Hilfiger, I mean high fashion brands like Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Saint Laurent - the latter isn't so much of a surprise with Heidi Slimane's grungy vibe. This spring, the denim skirt is making a huge comeback. I remember being a kid and wearing denim skirts. Fashion is truly a Mary-go-round. My favorites are probably the button up style or minis, I can't chose between the two.

Blush tones

Nudes, warm tones and blush hues have been all over the fashion world lately. Olivier Rousteing, creative director of Balmain, used this trend as an major inspiration for his latest collection like Balmain's aw16 blush colored corsetry/lingerie inspired runway pieces to last season's suede fever/classic and beaded pieces. Kim K is partly responsible for this trend with her classic head to toe monochrome neutrals (nude & blush tones). I was skeptical and very unsure of this trend at first but like a lot of things in the fashion world, it grew on me. Out of all the nude tones, my favorite is the blush hues, quite ironic given I hate pink. I'm not a fan of that color, at all. If you take a peek into my wardrobe, there's maybe one or two pieces who have pink on them and that's it. I prefer muted pink to bright, Barbie pink; that one makes me cringe.

Chokers

If you thought this trend would die down next season, you were wrong. Now, chokers aren't only made thin velvet string with a dangly charm or rubber string. The 90s original trend has evolved and is now a real, crystal crafted jewelry - as seen on Selena Gomez (pictured on top) at the annual Victoria's Secrets show. A simple wrap up style have also made an appearance along a thick, velvet band.

p.s. I will be doing a summer edit in a few weeks, stay tuned for that!

sinful color X kylie jenner

Kylie Jenner and nail polishes go hands in hands together. I've always been obsessed with her nail - color, shape and designs - so, when she announced a collab, I was more than excited as most of the time, you can't buy/know what shades she used since she gets them done at a salon. Personally, I'm not a fan of acrylics - they're a pain to take off and not the best thing for your nail's health. In January, Miss Jenner launched her first nail polish collab with with Sinful Colors. When I first glanced at the line, I was a bit disappointed by the color range as I'm not a fan of metallics - I prefer creams - but I guess it was expected as her collection is named King Kylie. These nail polishes were a struggle to find where I live; it took me a little more than four months to see them in store. Of course, I had to grab some as Kylie is my favorite of the Kardashian/Jenner clan. I decided to grab two nudes as I already own enough bright metallics in my collection.

Sinful color X Kylie Jenner in the shade Kreme de la Kreme

The first one I grabbed is called Kreme de la Kreme. I think the names are cute, they all starts with K's which is a typical Kardashian/Jenner thing. Kreme de la Kreme is a rose gold shade with gold sparkles and though I never jumped in the band wagon for this color/metal, I quite enjoyed it on my nails. The formula applies really well and you only needs two coats (+ top coat) to have a perfect opacity. I can't wait to wear this in the summer on my toe nails!

Sinful color X Kylie Jenner in the shade Kommando

The second shade I got is called Kommando and it's a pink-y nude shade with a little bit of gold sparkles. In the bottle, the color is really pretty but I'm not sure if I like it on me... Nude shades are a struggle with my pale skin. I was surprised with the opacity of this one. Most pale shades needs more than three coats to be fully opaque but this one applied just like a regular polish: only two coats were needed.

In all, I was really pleased with the formula/time wear of this nail polish. I had never tried gel polishes before but honestly, I don't see the difference between gel and regular as it lasts the same time for me - two weeks. The only thing is that these are a pain to take off - you need a nail polish remover with acetone in it or else it'll take you hours.

p.s. Tell me if you'd like a review of another shade from the Kylie collab with Sinful. I got a shade from her spring collection who aren't gel ones.
